Chief Executive Officer
Sam joined HealthSouth in June 2015. Originally from Ohio, she has more than 15 years of leadership experience in the healthcare field. Prior to joining HealthSouth, she served as the CEO for a rehabilitation hospital in northern Kentucky and as an area director of operations for a provider of rehabilitation services in northern California. She earned her associate’s degree in physical therapy from Kent State University, and a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in healthcare administration from Youngstown State University. Sam has extended HealthSouth’s reach and commitment in the community with her involvement with the American Heart Association, American Stroke Association and serving as a board member for the Nevada Hospital Association. Under her leadership, the hospital has built upon its community reputation for delivering high quality care and exceptional patient experiences. The hospital exceeds benchmarks in patient satisfaction, clinical outcomes and employee satisfaction.
Robert Gao, M.D.
Dr. Gao is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). He has had a medical practice in Las Vegas since 2001 and has been the medical director of HealthSouth Henderson since 2007. His medical practice specializes in neurological rehabilitation and outpatient muscle-skeletal problems. He graduated from Shanghai Second Medical University in China and holds a master’s degree in science from San Francisco University. Dr. Gao completed his residency at Brookdale University Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, and completed his residency in PM&R at UCLA/West LA VA Hospital in Los Angeles and West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Hospital.
Robert Gao, M.D., is an independent private practice physician whose office is located at the hospital.
Chief Financial Officer
Bob holds a master’s degree in public administration and healthcare administration from Brigham Young University in Utah. He has more than 35 years of experience in healthcare financial administration. Bob helped open HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Henderson in 2001.
Area Business Development Director
Tommy joined HealthSouth Desert Canyon in 2016. He serves as the area marketing director for HealthSouth Henderson, HealthSouth Las Vegas, as well as HealthSouth Desert Canyon. Tommy has more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry and is a registered nurse and a certified case manager. Most recently, Tommy worked as the senior director of business development for Select Specialty Hospital’s Greensboro, Durham and Winston-Salem locations. Tommy holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina.
Kiet Huynh, Pharm. D.
Kiet holds a doctorate degree in pharmacology from Roseman University, College of Pharmacy in Nevada. He joined HealthSouth in 2012 as a pharmacist prior to becoming a pharmacy director. Kiet has more than 15 years of healthcare experience, both in the acute and rehabilitation setting. He is originally from Southern California where he completed his undergraduate degree.
Director of Human Resources
Susan joined HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Henderson in March of 2005 with 13 years of experience in hospital-based human resources in the state of California. She holds a certificate in human resources management from California Lutheran University. Her variety of experience in human resources includes recruitment and retention, training, compensation, employee relations benefits, and workers’ compensation.
Gloria Mandel, MA, BSN, RN
Director, Quality and Risk Management
Gloria joined HealthSouth in February 2016. Previously, she worked as a regional quality and education coordinator in the homecare division of a nationwide healthcare services provider. She had a multifaceted professional career prior to becoming a registered nurse in 2010. Gloria completed a bachelor’s degree in human ecology and master’s degree in industrial relations from the University of the Philippines. In addition, she earned a bachelor’s degree and is near completion of her master’s degree in nursing from Chamberlain University. Her multidimensional exposures in working for both government and public sectors gave her leverage in advocating for quality improvements and positive patient care outcomes.
Director of Plant Operations
Anthony joined the HealthSouth Henderson team in 2014 as senior maintenance mechanic and was then promoted to director of plant operations that same year. A native of New York, Anthony has a diverse background in healthcare facility maintenance and plant operations. Prior to working in healthcare, he had experience working in automotive maintenance and repair, residential and commercial construction and protective security. In his spare time, Anthony enjoys rebuilding Harley Davidson motorcycles and has recently branched out into marine repair, including small personal watercraft and outboard motor craft.
Director of Therapy Operations
Kristen has been an employee of HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Henderson since 2003. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in physical therapy from Stockton University. She began her HealthSouth career as an outpatient staff therapist before transitioning to inpatient therapy manager in 2006 and then to the director of therapy operations in 2008. Kristen is the coordinator of clinical education for HealthSouth’s therapy student program as well as the program champion for the Joint Commission Disease-Specific Care Certification in Stroke. Kristen is a guest lecturer for Touro University for both Physical and Occupational Therapy Programs. She resides on the Physical Therapy Advisory Board for University of Las Vegas, Nevada. Kristen serves as an executive leadership member of the American Stroke Association (Vegas Chapter).
Evangeline “Vangie” Waltrip, CRRN
Chief Nursing Officer
Vangie joined HealthSouth Henderson in October 2002 and served as a nursing supervisor and nurse manager before becoming the chief nursing officer. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Perpetual Help College Philippines and has been a registered nurse for 20 years. Vangie’s certifications include BLS, ACLS and Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN).
